I have to say after sword, fire is my next favorite prop for Belly Dance. It’s beautiful to watch and a wonderful show opener, gets everyone’s attention and kids love it! (Kids are always a tough audience so if they’re interested it’s a good sign!) 🙂
For anyone who’s a fan of poi, these shorter fire sticks are definitely easier and much safer to dance with when wearing synthetic belly dance costumes, your hair down and often performing indoors. Hybrids are an amazing mix as the sticks have a short chain at the end so you can do a lot more of the crazy spins you can do with poi chains but can instantly stop them if something goes wrong.
I’m looking forward to adding new and more adventurous fire acts in our shows. The last time we performed I discovered I can do all my favorite floor work with fire and as I mentioned on FB, we’re adding one-handed cartwheels with fire in one of our Bollywood songs. Hopefully we will be able to post a video of it after our show this coming Saturday. Stay tuned. 🙂
